Illness Cocoon for the Kindred

About

Illness

Laura is a Chicago native who thought the concrete jungle was her forever lifestyle. She was energized by the constant activity, cultural diversity & seemingly endless possibilities.

Her life started shifting in 2018 and she has spent the last 5 years overcoming endless hurdles to heal; first mentally, and then physically.

The interconnection of invisible illness changed the trajectory of Laura’s life. She has found her passion in helping others by sharing her own journey of the interconnection of invisible illness and how transformative life can become when you shift to a healing mentality.

Shortly after she graduated from university, Laura packed two suitcases and spent the following year living and teaching in Barcelona. In her spare time, you could find her bopping around Europe | embracing new cultures & different perspectives. Her year abroad refueled her childhood passion for travel.

After a year in Europe, Laura returned to Chicago with no money and the knowledge that the profession she had studied for and field she worked in prior to Barcelona, was no longer her path forward. In time, she found a job in a new luxury hotel and slowly worked her way up in the hospitality industry. She had a successful, decade long career in sales and event planning | cultivating incredible relationships with her clients.

Her innate ability to connect with others is what has always fueled her.

In 2018, Laura abruptly left her event manager position, due to health concerns. After years of silently battling a harrowing mental health journey; she no longer could maintain the façade she had perfectly crafted. The interconnection of mental and physical wellness is inextricable. Laura now lives with a second invisible illness | chronic pain.

Invisible illnesses have changed every fiber of her being & she is very aware that her conditions are part of a lifelong journey of healing & growth. A journey she has fully embraced.

Laura decided in early 2021 to make several lifestyle changes. She left her job at a nonprofit to try and make the world a smidge better than she found it, on her terms. She then moved from her forever home, Chicago, to a one stoplight kind of town in Southwest Michigan.

Laura now lives a simpler, more intentional lifestyle. She actively embraces the smallest moments, grounds herself in nature & appreciates her hyggelig lifestyle; nestled in her log cabin in the trees with her sweetest foster fail, Piper.
